Therapist

Kirsten invites you to make contact with her to discuss your therapy needs. Her goal is to help make your mental health and relationship goals a reality by providing excellent therapy and by helping you navigate barriers to receiving the care you need.

Kirsten Dunlap is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate in Connecticut who has experience working with both individuals and couples. Kirsten received her Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling from Northwestern University and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Washington and Lee University.

Kirsten is well versed in several therapeutic approaches and believes there is no one size fits all way to practice therapy. That said, her approach tends to be heavily informed by her training in EMDR trauma therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples therapy. Kirsten received her initial training in Safety and Attachment focused EMDR through the Personal Transformation Institute and went on to receive more advanced EMDR training through Infinite Healing and Wellness (both EMDRIA approved). She completed her EFT Externship through NYEFT and her EFT Core Skills Training through Greenwich Center for Hope and Renewal. Additionally, she has assisted in training other therapists in this model by serving as a facilitator with Greenwich Center for Hope and Renewal’s EFT Externship Training. Kirsten is also a Level 1 Gottman Method Trained couples therapist.

Kirsten views her clients through an understanding and compassionate lens that assumes we are all doing the best we can…and yet, by engaging with our complex thoughts and emotions, we can discover new ways to find hope and more satisfying solutions. On a personal note, she has been married to Boots for 20 years and they have three children- Hugh, John, and Anna Drew. As a member of Noroton Presbyterian Church and the Darien community, Kirsten is honored to be a part of this new center and looks forward to the opportunity to help foster ultimate healing, limitless growth, and unconditional support of her clients at NPTC.
