Frequently asked questions

Starting therapy comes with many questions, and we’re here to provide the clarity and guidance you need.

The initial therapy session is designed to help the therapist gain a clear understanding of the client’s needs. Through thoughtful questions about the client’s current situation and relevant past experiences, the therapist gathers insight to collaboratively develop a personalized treatment plan.

The core phase of therapy may involve exploring emotions, examining belief systems and thought patterns, engaging in therapeutic exercises, reinforcing positive behaviors, and addressing negative ones. Throughout the process, the therapist provides a safe and supportive environment where clients can openly share their thoughts and experiences.

With a commitment to growth and change, therapy can foster skill building, healing, recovery, reconciliation, and the development of healthier ways of living and relating.

In the wake of the pandemic, our community, along with the world at large, experienced a troubling rise in mental health challenges. Rates of anxiety, depression, and suicide surged, and the mental health system struggled to keep up with the overwhelming demand. As a result, many individuals found themselves unable to access the critical care they needed. Recognizing this urgent need, the leadership and members of NPC identified an underserved mission field right in our own community. Feeling compelled to respond, God inspired generous donors and a diverse, talented team from NPC to turn this vision into reality. From this shared passion, the NPTC was born—a resource dedicated to providing accessible mental health care for those in Darien and surrounding areas.

We currently offer treatment for individuals from adolescence through adulthood, as well as couples and families.

Our normal office hours are Monday – Friday (10am to 8pm). We are not open on weekends.

You can. We work on a consultation model, so you can come and see if therapy is the right fit for you.

We encourage you to give your therapist the opportunity to work with you, as building a strong therapeutic relationship can take time. However, if you don’t feel a connection with your assigned therapist, you’re welcome to switch to another provider within our center. If you prefer to seek support outside of NPTC, we’re happy to assist you with a referral to a trusted community provider.

Our services are fully confidential, and we strictly adhere to all HIPAA guidelines. We do not disclose client identities or therapeutic details to anyone outside our center. However, maintaining safety is our top priority, and we are legally required to act in situations involving concerns about a client’s safety or suspected abuse of a child, disabled individual, or elder. In such cases, confidentiality may be limited. For more details, please review our confidentiality policies when completing the intake forms.

That’s okay! Our therapists are dedicated to helping you achieve your treatment goals - goals that you define. At NPTC, we welcome individuals at any stage of their faith journey, from those who do not identify with a faith tradition to those with a deeply rooted belief system. Our therapists take a flexible, client-centered approach, tailoring treatment to your preferences, whether you prefer a secular perspective or one that integrates faith-based principles. No matter your religious background or beliefs, you are valued and welcome here.
